As the year 2012 approaches us, Google has published the Zeitgeist for 2011. The Zeitgeist reveals the top ten most searched terms in different categories and throws light upon the trends that dominated the internet search engine during the year gone by. The India centric trends published by Google feature only a few cricket related terms.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2011, were amongst the top ten ‘Fastest Rising Searches.’ The World Cup occupied the fourth spot whereas the IPL 2011 settled at eight. The World Cup cashed in on the buzz in the months of February and March but as April arrived, the IPL came to the forefront on the search engines

The two tournaments were also in the most searched ‘News’ list and they occupied the top two spots in that category with IPL heading the tables.
It wasn’t a very good year for cricketers at the Zeitgeist as Sachin Tendulkar remains the only player to feature in any list. He is seventh on the list of most searched ‘People’ in a list dominated by glamorous celebs.
Poonam Pandey, the model who is a huge cricket fan and became a well known name due to her antics in support of Team India, was fourth on the list ahead of the likes of Aishwarya Rai and Kareena Kapoor. She also occupied the second spot in the ‘Fastest Rising People’ list behind Anna Hazare. However, no cricketer features in that category.
