Even as the whole nation wants Sachin Tendulkar to be conferred with Bharat Ratna, former India skipper Kapil Dev on Wednesday said the Master Blaster is above all awards.While interacting with students at MIT College here, India’s first World Cup-winning skipper said a few people automatically deserve such honours and it should not be demanded. “He (Sachin) has proved himself over the years and has achieved many things in his career. We shouldn’t ask or demand Bharat Ratna for him as we all know he deserves it.
By demanding the award, we are not doing justice to his talent. Sooner or later, he will get the award,” the legendary all-rounder said.
Dev lauded Tendulkar’s dedication and determination before citing the example of the maestro’s childhood friend and former teammate Vinod Kambli. “When Sachin and Vinod started playing, they were at the same level. But Sachin’s determination and focus helped him. On the other hand, Vinod had too many distractions.
He also had the skills, but he lacked concentration and wanted to do so many things at the same time. That is why Vinod and Sachin are at two different levels,” Dev elaborated.
